Ryan - 17 months (My Sweet Valentine)

Ryan is growing up so fast. He continues to be such a little character!

He's still the sweet angel he's always been. He's really good about saying "please" - and we're working on "thank you" - although they are sometimes used interchangeably. He has begun to show signs of terrible two's by way of his short temper when things don't go his way! I often get a hit (mostly to the face) when I've taken him away from something... and he throws things when he's not happy... but it doesn't take long for him to say sorry and/or lean in for a kiss before he's back to sweet angel.

Ryan is such a little mover. He's not one for sitting still - he's always on the go! It's always funny to pick up Ryan from daycare to see him running up and down the hallway and all around the playroom. It's hard to imagine that he keeps that up all day long. Boy, to bottle all that energy.

Ryan continues to be Parker's biggest fan. He climbs all over him, throws his ball, yells at him when he barks, chases him with his toys... ah the life. I'm sure Parker enjoys every minute of the attention. He's such a great dog!

Ryan is such an easy kid to put to bed. When it's time to sleep - he walks upstairs to his room, we put him in his crib, hand him a bottle and a blanket and walk out. He takes 2 hour naps (2x a day). He goes to bed at 8p and wakes up around 7a. We're pretty lucky - and we know it!

Ryan's vocabulary continues to grow on a daily basis. I'm sure what we have come to know as "language" would be quite difficult to decode for the normal person - but it's amazing how much he comprehends direction and separately what he is able to communicate back. (Comprehension is much better)

Some words that come to mind:
Cole, Dilla (Dylan), Ice, Juice, Hot Dog, Baba, Thank You, Please, Mama, Dada, BaPa (Grandpa), Cracker, Muffin, Milk, Cookie, Sock, Remote, Thirsty, This, Hot, Up, Bowl, More, and Diaper.

Ryan understands simple instructions - and points and tries to communicate when he wants/needs something. For instance, I can tell him to pick up his cup (across the room) and he'll look for it - go pick it up - and bring it to me. And when he wants a toy up on the shelf - he'll point to it and "chatter" - for me to get it down. Hey - it all works. I'm sure it's going to be coming together quicker than we can imagine.

Ryan has an infatuation with the vacuum cleaners - and fortunately (or unfortunately) we have many of them. At least he's past the stage of standing in front of the closet door saying "this", "this", "this" - or some other non-stop sound - that mimics chinese water torture - in hopes that he will get to play with the machine. Equally fascinating to him is his cozy coupe fire truck. Dylan pushed him around at lightning speed around the house - which has set the standard of how fast he'd like to go ALL the time. At times I've had to lock the car away from sight just to get him to move on to something that doesn't require a full workout for him to be happy.

Anyways... Jeff and I completely adore this little child. We hope that his personality continues to be charming in the months and years ahead!
